Abby Sunderlund

On January 23, 2010 Abby Sunderland took off from Del Ray Yacht Club in California in her 40’ sailboat to sail solo around the world. The amazing thing she is only 16 years old and wants to break the record of being the youngest to do so.

I found this quite amazing. I remember sailing at camp in a Sunfish when I was twelve and again about ten years ago with a group of friends. What fun. But I don’t think I could have the stamina and drive to do what Abby is doing.

Abby has competition though, since there is another young girl in Australia attempting the same feat.
