Since my husband is working on his PhD, we are sitting at home and he is studying. This set of books looks great for him to read and take his mind off of all his math classes. He loves to pick up a book to take a break.

I wish it was a getaway weekend, but one of my kids has a football game on Saturday and another starts his fall mountain biking club on Monday. Thanks for the giveaway.

Wow...three book givaway...awesome! Not too much happening this weekend, probably do some grilling, maybe have some friends over for a cookout.
As usual nothing special here. My husband won't find out his work schedule till the day before, which is always AGGRAVATING and makes anything tough to plan around.
But if the weather cooperates we will probably pack the two crazy kids up and go out to my mom's in East Texas and have some smoked BBQ. Ok now I am hungry.
Thanks for the giveaway, I've had my eye on the Zuckerman title.

This labor day, I am going home to visit my father who is 84, a veteran of WWII. He was a US Marine. He told me was on his way over to Japan on a ship and scared to death...only a few days away from landing. They were ordered to keep all lights off, no cigarettes on deck, when one evening they were up on deck and all of the sudden there was noise coming from everywhere, but there was fog and they could not see much. Very shortly an announcement came over the speaker that Japan had surrendered & then he said it was as if God's hands parted the fog, and they saw the lights come on as far as there eyes could see. The lights of ships, 100's of them and all allied ships - he said the sight was amazing & many men were so elated, with tears & everyone on every ship was cheering and the ships horns were blasting.
He said it was a sight to see. He felt like the luckiest man alive. I love to listen to that story.
He also tells of being on an island in the Pacific, Palau. He was supposed to be doing guard duty one night, when he fell asleep. If you were caught sleeping you could be court martialed. He felt a tap on his shoulder and it was Japanese prisoner, trying to wake him up. My father had been sneaking them a little extra food. The man could have killed him and escaped, but he woke him up! Later the same prisoner gave him the silk flag of Japan, which we have carefully saved. It is beautiful and now I know what it means to my father.
I am going home this Labor Day weekend to help him with whatever he needs and to celebrate his 84 th birthday with him. He has accomplished a lot in his 84 years and lost a lot as well. So this is my time for him.

I am going to SLEEP. I can't wait for Labor Day because I just imagine lying in bed with the lights off and the TV on softly, floating in and out of sleep.

I was supposed to work, but I took off because I'm working the following Saturday (the 12th). It has been an annual tradition for me that I was the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon. I have done this since I was a kid. In fact, I used to volunteer at the local telethon for many years. I usually start watching at the beginning and go to sleep with the TV on so in case I wake up during the night, I can watch some more. When I get up on Monday, I watch it till it's over.
Thanks for the chance.
